Farm Animals

Chickens, goats, and pigs provide an important source of food, from eggs to milk to meat.  They can also lead to life-sustaining mico-industries for their owners and their families.  It may sound strange, but the gift of farm animals is truly a gift from Heaven.

2 Chickens

The protein in just one egg is a nutritious gift for a hungry child.  Chickens give children and families a lasting source of nutrition and income.  Eggs will provide protein and nutrients in a families’ diet.  Additionally, families are able to sell chicken eggs in the market and receive income, or will share with their hungry neighbors in Montrouis.  Income will allow parents to provide basic necessities for their children.  The gift of chickens will never stop giving to the families as it is one animal that is able to continuously multiply.  Chickens require little maintenance money and barely any space.  They are ideal for our families that have little money to begin this industry and very limited property.

Goat

The gift of a dairy goat represents a lasting, meaningful way for you to help a child in Montrouis.  Goats are able to survive in extreme climates and on poor dry land by eating leaves and grass.  A dairy goat is able to provide a family with up to several quarts of milk a day.  Families can sell extra milk, or it can be used to make cheese, butter, or yogurt.  Goat manure will also help Haitian families fertilize their land for future crop production.  Goats also can have two to three kids a year.  Families then have the option of selling the kids, or starting a small dairy farm.  This allows families one more option to earn money for food, health care, and continuing education for their children, and allow them to lift THEMSELVES out of poverty.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
