Celebrating 20 years!
There are a few in our world who view missions serving in 3rd world countries as “ineffective”. They see missions as “temporary” only serving until the next disaster or need becomes greater. These same people may see the work of missions as a band-aid on a far greater issue. Do a simple internet search and you will be surprised and saddened how hurtful and negative some can be about missions. Our simple response-they have not had the blessing to experience the love, compassion, and dedication that some missions maintain to improving another’s life. They have not received pictures of their sponsor child, a Christmas picture or a hand-written note thanking them for their support. They have not experienced partnering with LCM!
This year, Life Connection Mission, celebrates serving in Haiti for 20 years! It is RARE to find any non-profit of our size, operating only by volunteers existing for more than 20 years. Probably more uncommon to be on the ground and not just survive but to grow in a 3rd work country for 20 years. We are an effective mission. We have changed lives and will continue to do so. We have provided an education to thousands and will continue to do so and improve the opportunities made available to our students. We have existed where others can’t because of you. We share this for two reasons:
1. Thank you for believing and trusting in LCM- we know there are so many needs around the world and so many options you could choose when looking to help others, so we thank you for choosing us and entrusting us with your charitable giving.
2. We are PROUD!! We often reflect on the growth of LCM and can’t help but say (with beaming smiles on our faces) “LOOK HOW FAR WE HAVE COME!”
AND... Placed thousands of band-aids on cuts and scrapes with love.
Life Connection Mission started with a vision to serve the Haitian people. In 1997, Tim and Barbara Aument traveled to Montrouis. They committed their time, efforts, and resources for three years to the House of Bread Ministry. This was a small ministry that educated 30-40 children under a canvas roof. From this came the founding of Life Connection Mission. The first stage for Life Connection Mission was to establish a community church which would double during the week as a school building. Shortly thereafter with successful fundraising, the first floor of our current school building was constructed and children in preschool-6th grade were able to attend class and receive a nutritious daily lunch. Overtime, medical ministries, community support, and evangelization programs quickly ensued with the foundation of the school.
The heart and soul of Life Connection Mission, Jean Lucien, grew up in Montrouis, and as an adult living in the United States, he frequently traveled back to his home. Jean happily and proudly watched as missionaries began to greatly impact his community. Jean was determined to support the missionaries as they offered hope, greater opportunities, and love to his family and friends. Jean received the great gift of moving to the United States and immediately found work and a new family! Jean began work with Dale and Peggy Moyers and quickly became good friends. He invited his “bosses” to travel with him to his home country. He wanted Dale and Peggy to see and believe the good they had done for him by providing him with work.
Dale opened his heart to the beginning of the next chapter of his life and was completely amazed by the poverty and heartache he witnessed. He was in awe of the hard work, deep faith, and love for each other displayed by the Haitian people. Several more trips allowed Dale to become more involved with Life Connection Mission. He connected with many of the children, established friendships with others in the community, sponsored children, purchased property to build a personal home, volunteered his time and energy to help the mission grow and the Institution Educative Excellence De Montrouis expand to offer more children a quality education.
Dale’s passion became most visible when Oasis Fellowship Church was no longer able to commit for the long-term success of Life Connection Mission due to increasing financial demands. For fear of what would happen to the children, their families, and the hope that had been given to the community of Montrouis, Dale with Jean by his side every step of the way, took over as President of the mission. Dale and Jean worked tirelessly to see that what was started almost ten years prior, would maintain its successful course and continue to grow to serve hundreds more children.
Dale has since recruited hundreds of loving and generous sponsors and donors to aid in his long-term commitment to a better future for the children in Haiti.
|For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
